Message From Principal

Indore School of Social Work established in 1951 is committed to excellence in its teaching, research and professional practice in Social Work. Its staff aims to inculcate these areas of scholarly knowledge, skills and attitudes in the students for the effective practice of social work. The integration of academic and operational excellence is shown in the school’s Under Graduate and Post Graduate studies.Since its inception around 3500 students have passed out of this college. The alumni of this college are working in different spheres of society and contributing to the nation building process: be it in Government sector, Voluntary sector, Industrial sector or at the policy making levels.

The reputation that this institution of higher learning is enjoying today is because of the vision, life and hard work of highly dedicated men and women like Dr. PT Thomas, Dr. WSK Phillips and Dr. Winifred Bryce. The standard that they were able to raise had been a source of inspiration for greater achievements.

For several reasons the Indore School of Social work is a unique institution. It is the oldest school of social work in Central India and it had a historical role in defining and introducing the concept of Professional Social Work .The curriculum followed here is a unique blend of teaching and practice, leading to the professional growth of young students to serve the humanity. At the institute the faculty encourages the students to pursue knowledge through inquiry and support them in innovative practicum and research. It has become a nodal agency for Childline project supported by Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India and to many of the action projects for the protection and promotion of child rights by UNICEF. The evaluation projects undertaken by the college have been used in their policy formulation by National Literacy Mission, Ministry of Rural Development and Ministry of Social Justice.

Indore School of social work also possesses a unique culture it has not a regional culture but national culture. Teachers and students are drawn from all over India it is indeed a miniature India. We emphasize on ethical behavior and social accountability in all our actions and relationships. The college has a special role in fostering the unique bond that exists between the student, teachers and the administrative staff.

This unique feature have led the Alumni to set up state level chapters so as to strengthen the bond that they have discovered and developed during their student life in the institution. The alumni chapters are functioning in Kerala, Delhi, Bhopal, Jaipur, Calcutta and Bengaluru.

I wish all the success to the students who choose Indore School of Social work for their training in social work.
